There's only one car on the list worth owning, namely the VW TDI.
The rest are boring as "Watching Grass Grow" or "Watching Paint Dry", and aren't worth the relentless ordeal of "driving" 'em.
For all the crowing about "ForTwo Mileage!", the TDI gets the same fuel economy, but it's a hoot to drive and highly practical to own.
2.0-liter turbocharged diesel 4-cylinder manages 30 mpg city/42 mpg highway (34 mpg combined) without any of the hassles of a hybrid drivetrain. Even more impressive are the 140 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque at your command. It may not be as efficient as the rest of the green machines on this list, but the 2010 Volkswagen Golf is a heck of a lot more fun to drive. Of course, if you find the tiny hatch a little too cramped,

Did you notice the power curve:
236 lb-ft of torque at your command.
At $17K base, or $23K turbo, the big boy wins. Again.
Cramped? Compared to Smart?

Smart's "Dead and Buried" in the US long before the global economy's recovered enough to drive gas prices [pun intended] back to four bucks a gallon.
Wouldn't matter anyway. Much better cars from competitive manufacturers for the same money, with more fun, more room, and better features. Smart's just whistling past the graveyard.

Gas is cheap. Enjoy the drive.
When "Gas Is Expensive", all the more important to "Enjoy the Drive!"
Sell now, while there's still some money to be had. "Never become the last man killed in the war."
