This from the UK, undated. Their model lineup is a little different than ours, and the mileage is in imperial gallons. Still, kind of interesting. http://www.acceleratebristol.com/car...facturer=Smart

The posted review answered a question that heretofore I couldn’t figure out. What is the 61PS 999cc Mitsubishi all about? There are four flavors (flavours?) of Euro 451 engines offered: Mitsubishi in 61, 71, and 84 turbo, and still a 799cc turbo diesel. The specifications for the 61 and 71 are identical. Same configuration; same displacement; same compression ratio; same 95 RON gas required.

The posting alluded to “congestion charging zones,” London being one of them. There is a fee or tax to operate certain private vehicles within them. But in London’s case (and there may be others) I found that there is an exemption for vehicles producing low levels of CO2. Apparently the 61PS engine is a normal Mitsubishi I-3 that has been altered to fall within the exemption standard. I would guess that the loss of 10HP in central London is a good trade-off to save a good bit of money.
