AE indicates that the lithium ion battery pack powering the Trixx could cost as much as £8,000 ($12,100 in U.S. dollars) per unit to make. To counteract the high cost of entry, Vauxhall may sell the actual car while offering a separate lease for the battery.
Strange way to sell a car.
That's like selling the car but you are going to lease the engine forever. So even if you can pay cash you will still be stuck making payments forever.
It's definitely a unique business model! This EV market is so new and the costs are so high, we'll probably see lots of interesting schemes to spur adoption...
Interesting idea... Would open up the market for replacement batteries later in the cycle, and for the "home brew" folks that would be happy to setup their own energy cell system in a street legal car. I can't say it's a bad concept in the long run, given how quickly battery technology changes.
I had to think this over again. I've never owned a car for over 13 months, and I can't imagine having battery problems in such a short period. If the batteries have at least a years/10,000 miles life, I'd have to think about it...

Sort of like buying a Dell printer. $99 printer, $100/mo on ink. Which is almost accurate due to the fact that the "ink" cartridges include the highly complex print head and all its thousands of nozzles. The printer itself just moves things around.
