Another word on FEES

Think about this...especially those that are told that they have 500 and 700 dollar fees attached to the car. In the States of Illinois and Indiana, Doc fees and dealer prep fees are added to the price of the car and then taxed along with the sticker price. Depending on your tax rate....

In Illinois-- a 500.00 add on fee (addl dealer profit) adds 31.25 to the cost in tax. We have a 6.25% tax rate. 31.25 is almost as much as the CA people pay in doc fees total (55.00).

Everyone should check thier state laws and see if the doc and prep fees are taxed. This is another argument against the fees. Rip off upon rip off.

was curious with all of the fee talk so looked at my '06 Mazda3 sales order ... at the top it says "Illinois Standard Buyers Order" ... doc fee in '06 was up to $57.33 (cost of living adjustment since '92 of $40) ... they added $25 for electronic filing (got my renewal sticker w/o going to to Sec of State (our DMV office) so my time is worth more than that + $80 transfer plate std fee from IL ... he is right in that the $57.33 + $25 was taxed but as I had a trade that was deducted off the selling price first ... the $80 plate fee wasn't taxed.

It will be worse this time as IL went to $150 doc fee ... this will also be a dealer I haven't bought from before so will watch what else they may try to add on ... still compared to FL and a few others mentioned IL isn't so bad ... (certainly not a $500 add-on)
