Avis UK is showcasing Smart cars in the British capital this month, in an effort to encourage renters to test drive these vehicles for the first time. The Smart Fortwo is specifically on offer, at Avis’s London Mayfair location, and the international car hire giant describes the experience of driving a Smart car as both “brilliant” and “fun.” Additionally, Smart cars are the most convenient passenger vehicles, when it comes to parking in London’s notoriously congested streets. Some potential renters, however, may be concerned about both comfort and safety, considering the fact that Smart cars are so small, yet Avis points out that these vehicles have been fully tested and they are both safe and comfortable, making them an ideal choice for single drivers, or for couples.
Smart Cars may be booked directly at http://www.avis.co.uk/, for pick up at the London Mayfair location. In order to receive the best rates, all bookings should be made no later than May 30th, 2008 and rentals must be completed by May 31st, 2008. A minimum of one day advance reservation is required in all cases, and the rental period may be anywhere from a single day, to 27 consecutive days. Clients should, however, keep in mind that they will be required to pay in advance for their rental, at the time of online reservation. All inclusive daily rentals start at £31.00*, in the case of online bookings.
In San Francisco, there is a CityCareShare smart fortwo at the 76 Station, in the Castro (14th St at Market)... it's not quite a rental company, but you could sign up and only use the smart to get a feeling for it...
Correction: that CityCarShare is at 15th and Market (not 14th.. ) though their website also says they have one at Stevenson @ 7th (at the SOMA Grand). They rent by the hour and gas, insurance are included.
Avis had smarts to rent at the Frankfurt airport. I tried to switch to one untill I saw the rate, very expensive. I guess they consider it a specialty car.
