I'm not sure being first in the "which car maker has the most to prove" poll is a good thing. Ford is at 50% which tells me the voters think Ford needs lots of improvement; I don't think smart is in that situation. Just my .02.

Hey carnut, the poll asks "Which automaker has the most to prove" I am not sure voting for smart would send the intended message. Weird question anyway...

I don't think that Smart has the most to prove as the poll asks. I think the Big Three face that challenge. I understand that acceptance of the Smart is still kind of an unknown although they have sold out the manufacturing capability for this year already...continuing the popularity will be the question. I don't think it's going to be a problem, but is still unproven.

CNBC.

Cnbc is a joke. A bad joke, as is this dumb poll.

I read it that smart has proven nothing and has the most the prove. Ford as proved it can make cars, supply them to dealers and repair them. smart has yet to do all of of this yet.

I really want smart to prove that they can do this, since for now, they have only completed one out of the three in the USA at least! Its a new thing, so they really need to prove they can do it.

Dumb question, though. Folks have lost a lot of faith in Ford I think the poll is showing.

I don't think this poll is something to get bent out of shape over. It's really about the fact that 2008 is going to be a tough year for automakers generally, and who's going to fare better/worse.

Really it's dumb to include smart at all, since technically smart is a brand not an automaker. Much as we all want and expect it to be a huge success, if it does poorly Daimler will kill smart, not the other way around.

On the other hand, this is make or break time for Ford and Chrysler. A subpar 2008 could be the death knell for either of them.

I'm with dickey. Smart has a lot to "prove" since it's not even here yet. I have every confidence in it as well or I wouldn't be here. Ford has nothing to prove. It's been here forever and last year was voted most reliable transportation. It's gotten awards for the Fusion, the Mustang is outrageous and as much as I hate SUVs the Edge is on the forfront.

Judging by the vote I think the people participating don't understand the question...for real!

I voted for Chrysler, they just got fined 31 million for not meeting the current MPG standards. I think at 4% Smart is winning hands down, or else people are unfamiliar with Smart, or else they or I don't understand the question. What is the question anyway?

I agree that the question is wierd. I do think that smart will eventually prove that their product has a larger market than anyone in the US auto industry wants to admit. As a result the big 3 will try to rush crap models to the market in an effort to steal smart sales. Look for GM to run advertisements for even more upcoming models that will no doubt be launched at the same time as the phantom Volt. I believe our tax dollars will be bailing out the big 3 rather than them actually having to pull their heads out of their a**es and adapt with the times.
