Crash... NOT!!

Got an Email about a crash in Jefferson Parrish LA that was supposedly a smart crushed between 2 trucks. Problem is the only tire showing does not look like it came from a smart. It has 5 bolt holes and I have never seen a smart with that design unless it is a custom aftermarket rim. I suspect someone trying to bad mouth our little cars again...

It looks a lot like the rim on my son's Gran Prix...

Yeah, definitely not a smart. I think it looks like a GM wheels also, might be a Cobalt if not a Grand Prix.

If it was a smart, the panels would be all over the place, that thing was all metal

That does look like the west bank expressway in Jefferson parish..
but that does NOT look like a Smart...
Is there a credit to where the photo came from .. or a date...
Nothing in the news about that today.

There was an accident involving a Smart on the east bank of Jefferson Parish last week...

PHOTOS: Two cars overturn in wreck on Earhart Expressway - NOLA.com

the Smart was on it's side.. driver was un injured...
Interesting to note that they had more trouble extracting the driver of the SUV .. while the Smart looks to be mostly in tact.. just laying on it's side.

If the pic is not a Photochop, I'd guess a late model Chevy Aveo or HHR. They both have wide 5 spoke wheels like the one pictured.

I find the comments in the article interesting....

Seriously hope no one was hurt...

The "SMART car" is not so smart after all. They are tiny vehicles and do not look robust enough to be on an expressway...

Uh, aircheck, the driver is walking away. I'd say the car did a pretty good job. The much larger (what appears to be) SUV is just as flipped over.

People who buy smart cars aren't very smart. She is very lucky not to get killed. Are the helmet laws inforced in smart cars?

Smart people drive smart cars that are smart enough to stay off highways and interstates! These cars are like riding motorized bicycles, you know?

Why is everybody hatin' on the Smart car? I see TWO cars overturned in that photo, and according to the caption, police officers at the scene determined that one of them was at risk of exploding. And is wasn't the Smart car.

Well, it looks to me like the driver of the Smart car walked away from this accident. I've also seen accident testing videos of the Smart car and it performed above average in a head-on collision. The Smart car looks pretty smart to me. Why are y'all hatin' on the Smart car? Oh wait, this is nola.com forums--NEVERMIND. You people will hate on anything and everything. I bet that Smart car was black. That's probably it.

*stares in wide-eyed disbelief at the utter stupidity of the unfourtantly semi-literate posters on this website*
With NO scientific data or any proof to back up their position, people assume the Smart Car is unsafe. Even when they see a photo of the police officer helping the woman walking away from the crash, some call it a "death trap" anyway. I guess it just bugs me that people come to stupid conclusions and think they know what they are talking about.

As for the car crush photo, it does make me wonder how other cars, including SUVs and the Smart would hold up to the kind of forces in a crash like that.

The reason I didn't post that the day it happened.... is that the commenters on NOLA.COM are particularly ignorant...
