Saw this item last year and knew it was wrong, look here and share with the smart bashers:

I checked with SNOPES. The vehicle smashed between the two trucks was a Ford Excape SUV. The crash was actually offset so the passenger side (the side visible0 was crushed more than the driver's side. The driver survived and was released from the hospital.

and in a wierd way it is entertaining, because how ignorant some people can be.

Anybody who knows anything about a Smart Car would immediately know that is not a Smart in that picture. The first give-away is the amount of mangeled metal. The Smart has plastic body parts, which would probably just pop off, possibly warp, but plastic does not mangel like the metal in that picture.

Also, take a close look at the wheel - 5 lug nuts, whereas the Smart has 3. Why would someone choose to post such a ridiculous hoax? One of Smart's competitors, maybe? Certainly a futile attempt!

probably due to the length of this thread, most people (new members) might not read every page and might post their observations. Nothing wrong with that...Sometimes these pictures re-appear in E-mails etc.

My neighbor just sent me the chain mail about this crash that isn't even a smart but labels it as a smart.

I was listening to a podcast of The Under the Hood Show on the way to work a few weeks ago. They started talking about small cars then mentioned this picture and said it was a smart. I quickly shot an email to Russ (one of the hosts) and tried to set the record straight. The SAME DAY I sent the email they put up on their website that it isn't a smart. We had some good conversation about smarts too. They verbally set the record straight on last weekend's show too...so if you listen to last weeks podcast - that is me they are talking about.
