I got the very same e-mail sent to me from a friend (who drives a Suburban and a full size Chevy truck), who thinks smarts are death traps. Ironically, he also rides a motorcycle helmetless.....
To bolster the e-mail I got, there was also a stock photo of a silver smart attached. Except it was a early 450 model, not seen to often in the U.S. !!
I pointed out the obvious, not a smart, etc., but I've haven't received an e-mail back from him yet...
Got to love the comments from the people in the New Orleans article. All these brainiac comments coming from people that live next to a large body of water BELOW sea level. (see, I made one of those dumb generalizations too )
Mud Pie - I've had people comment to me how dangerous my car was while they were riding their motorcycle. All I have to say to them is they have a great memory, because they didn't forget to take their stupid pill that morning.
As far as the original picture dedicated to this thread. I know the Toyota Corolla had a hubcap like that around 2005-2006. Very similar.
Glad you put the smily... and I don't usually take offense at the comment..
but I do live IN NEW ORLEANS and I don't live below sea level...
And.. there are many many other places in the country that depend on federal levee systems to keep the water out ....
so don't single out New Orleans

pssst. calm down....count to three.....let me explain further. When I said "see, I made one of those dumb generalizations too" I was getting at how you wouldn't believe all of the people that don't live in the south who think ALL of New Orleans is below sea level. Pretty much trying to get at the same thing as those uninformed New Orleans people that posted in the comment section of that article who think Smarts are unsafe because of their size. They didn't check the facts, just like not all of New Orleans isn't below sea level. I hope you understand that now. Did I explain it clearer? Not a jab at you, but I did single out New Orleans since the article was from there.
That does look like the west bank expressway in Jefferson parish..
but that does NOT look like a Smart...
Is there a credit to where the photo came from .. or a date...
Nothing in the news about that today.

That picture showed up in my twitter tracker on July 30-- hard to say when it started the rounds without wasting a bunch of time on a picture I considered suspect. I say suspect because of the non-smart wheels and the apparent crumpled look of metal not plastic.
