Releasing this was a rather large mistake, IMO... err rather the apparent date padding was a mistake.

I wondered about this all along - whether the actual rapid increase in configurations was going to pan out.

Reserved 6-28-07, 1264, confirmed 2-15-08, estimator says September-November 2008.

I'm calling my local Honda dealer now to put my name on one of these:



I don't NEED a smart, but I thought it would be a cool car. I'll let my reservation ride, but I probably won't take delivery.

mrVrooomm, do you have a FIT? If so how do you like it, I really like the look of the Fit and considered buying one when it launched but looked so similar to my Matrix thought I'd wait for something different..never thought I'd be waiting this long!

All the smartcar dealers orphan lists just got longer and their reservation list just got shorter. It is going to be really tempting for dealers to just sell orphans because they are going to be offered a lot of money for them.

It'd be nice if those of you who find things utterly unacceptable would simply cancel your reservations, so that those of us who recognize the realities of bringing this car to market (and don't mind the wait) can move up the list. Thanks in advance.

I know that my reservation is only a month old, but some of you reserved a long time ago and are getting estimated dates that are really far off.
So I'm taking this as an omen that I will be driving my Honda for a v e r y long time.

I got the same message - my reservation is a month old. When I first logged into the system I got a message that it was due July - September 2010... I checked again a few hours later and I got the message that they can't estimate it. People were probably pretty pissed that they were estimated friggen 2.5 years away!!

I may be wrong here, but, based on a recent conversation with a manager, I believe there may be a glitch in the Estimator that will hopefully be resolved. It's logic is not accounting for future production, I've been told. A call to your local dealer may get a more accurate response.
