Thanks Fred. You've about got me mirrored. Plenty of time and spare cash, plenty of toys, and just looking for something else to play with. The smart was only going to be another toy. I'll just find something else that grabs my attention. Or just keep playing with the WRX. Gotta sell the extra car, too, now that spring is starting to come around and I can work on the WRX's brakes and drop in a new battery. Anyone want to buy an Audi A6? (see profile for link to the Morris Garage)

Thanks again,
Steve

I could get mine this summer, yet it is really a leap into the unknown. I think I'm able to keep my 02 Neon for the winter and long trips.... (But not absolutely sure about that)....

Buy a car that will be newer used Neon or buy one that new and cool but semidemi impractical for VT...

If this is true or partial true Im not happy. Im actually fuming.
Trying to forget about it and move on.
don't fret, this dde is very fluid and not at all accurate - I'm also in So. California, #1239 and my dde shows july - sept 08 - i configured in January 08 - they seem to be playing it way too conservative, by two months or so... don't give up - the car is fun to drive (getting a 2nd one)

With two cars reserved I can always pass on the first and take the second if they announce upgrades or I want a few more months to save up the total purchase price (had it but just redid my landscaping so I have to start over).

Not everybody getting this car has the luxury. I am lucky that my volvo is still running, but its starting to get tired and I would rather have the smart sooner then later.
But I would venture to think that Penske doesn't want this cars PRIMARY reason for purchase to be a third toy car for people. Their are alot of people out there who needed a car, and thought this was their choice. I am sure smart lost some sales because of that. But thats like beating a dead horse.

"Toy" or not, 25,000 was the goal for the first year. It looks like they'll have no trouble getting that accomplished. There was always a chance that cars were going to sit unsold on the dealers lots, meltdown, blowup, etc. and that's not happening. The ball is rolling now and if they lose some short term sales it probably doesn't really matter in the long run. I'm looking forward to the options coming in the next model year.

Just wanted to add my info. Recieved my configuration e-mail today. #1541 late 08 delivery. DDE told me Oct-Dec09, obviously DDE subject to change those with high reservation numbers don't dispair! Man am I excited! I really figured I wouldn't hear from smart until this fall.

I used the caluclator and it said between Dec 2008 and Feb 2009. Then I get an email today saying to finalize my selection. Isnt this an indicator that it will be here in three months?
