I'm with you Fred. When we type in our email on the DDE it links to our info (reserve/config date) to give us a "90 day window"...or does it? Maybe our info is batched with others in a particular region and/or by configuration down to the color as part of some wierd mathematical formula. With todays' technology there are ways to give more accurate information. Heck, why doesn't Smart USA tell us how the DDE works...what the parameters are? Then maybe we can understand a little better. Reading the post from bigbird above (res 5/12/07, config 12/20/07) and being in the same region as me I can't understand why his/her car is at the same dealer where I'm getting my car (due in Baltimore 4/18) when I reserved 2 days prior AND configured 3 days prior. My DDE says 4/19 to 7/18. Makes no sense. Seems to me that the 90 day window should start when the car is on the assembly line.

Question: on the bill of lading of the ship «Courage» (where my future car is, currently sailing from Southampton to NYC), they are only coupe, 190 of them. Not one single cabrio... Could this be part of an explanation?

Could be that the "just-in-time" manufacturing process allowed only coupes to be on the assembly line. Could be that the "numbers" in this region (considering equal distribution) did not call for more cabrios. Could be there were more cabrios on the last ship. Could be a coincidence. We can make all kinds of guesses and conjectures without knowing the actual process. Maybe we'll know why these things happen this way after Smart has a glut of cars on the dealers lots.....IF that happens.

I see your point, Paul. But it still makes no sense to the logically-minded.

Just checked the DDE- mine has changed 7 times. Back to the original date, without a specific day of the month
#1222 - S.F., Calif.
Rreserved - May 07
Configured - Dec 07
New (old DDE) July-Sept 08

Could be 16 months to delivery from original order.....

I know I am concerned. I did the reservation in late March 08 and the DDE says Aug 09 to Oct 09. That's well over a year. The dealership seems to think I will have it around May 09, but I'm not holding my breath as they know nearly as little as I do. You would think they would pick up production to avoid loosing interest & reservations. I also fear what the price jump will be in the 2009 version. Lots of unknowns... I am also not getting the news letter despite signing up for it, twice! I am taking a wait and see approach, I just hopes my old car keeps running until the smart arrives, if not, I might be forced to look at something else, which I don't want to do... Any thoughts?

Nope, not yet. In fact it hasn't changed since 11 APR, after a bit of day dithering.

i made my reservation on 3/16/08 (1536) and have NOT confirmed/configured but the DDE says Sept-Nov 2009 for me. i wouldn't put too much faith in the DDE until you've configured and have been given a VIN. then see where you stand.

mine has never given me a 'day', only month and year with a 90 day window.
