Is there anyone out there that got their email to lock in their specs that might have the destination fee $$ on it? I would guess that, if they are "confirming", then they have to give you a price, right?
In an unusual safeguard, Penske has a contract provision with dealers that outlaws charging more than the list price. It should help prevent the gouging that happens with an exciting new vehicle.
Well after all those excited replies I STILL say......try to factor in an estimate to your budget (for destination) before you add on $2-3000 worth of options. Not to mention a $1000-2000 worth of aftermarket bolt-ons. All your answers will be met within a matter of a few weeks now. A large portion of the posts here are second guessing. Of course we all want to know everything NOW. As I said before I'm glad I'm not getting mine till later so I can see how everyone makes out. Those of you who went first will find out first. Good luck with that. I've also been buying cars for near 40 years and never had to deal with such a big stink. Relax. Try one of these.....
its more than a hint, check out the new pricing (according to the write up)

The base car is called the smart fortwo pure, a hardtop coupe which starts at $12,240. Next up is the smart fortwo passion, available as a coupe with an acrylic skylight for $14,240 or as a convertible, called the cabrio, for $17,240.

Base price, including destination charge: $14,240.
Base dealer cost (estimated): $13,015.
Price as tested: $15,360.
Bottom Line : The destination charge is $650
Because the price from the company store www.smartusa.com is still $13,590!
The entire top of the panoramic roof Passion is acrylic or some polycarbonate clear materiel.... in the interior, the head liner limits some of the total area.. there is a sun shade to block the rest of it...BUT it is a clear non glass top
SmartBob.... glad you have lots more time then some others to figure this out... many forum members --Not me--have to make guesstimates and decisions right NOW for financing a new car and budgeting for Christmas as I already suggested...
no wise arsed chill pill can relieve the frustration and uncertainty.
Potential delivery for some is less then 5 weeks away
The frustration is mainly due to lack of concise information from IB or PAG... and I am willing to bet they know the answer(s)....
There are a few things that could potentially be deal breakers...warranty, dealer add on fees, and an inflated destination charge like the Canadian $1250+/-
I bet the destination is in the 500~800 range and I, for one, will be real agitated if it is higher then $900
I found one additional source information. From cleanmpg.com's report of the smart pricing announcement:
"...Although no information has been released wrt the destination charge, SMART has stated the destination charge will be comparable to that from Honda or Toyota..."
The folks at cleanmpg are a pretty serious bunch, not taken to making things up. The info is definitely not in the official smart press release, but someone at PAG probably did make the statement.
For comparison, destination charges for the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris are $635 and $660 respectively.
