I have found, when researching a new model car or truck on Edmunds; that they are usually real close in their estimations about what these type things will cost....(perhaps inside info) In this case they show Smart car destination as $600--- that is in line with what MicroNut found

I think if we budget $580~$725 for this charge, we will not be far from reality

Here is the Edmunds quote. Everything is right on with pricing (other than I selected both heated seats and the comfort package that includes heated seats), so I'd assume the $600 destination charge is, too:

2008 smart fortwo
passion 2dr Hatchback (1.0L 3cyl 5AM)
MSRP
National Base Price
$13,590
Regional Adjustment
for Zip Code Change - - $0
Optional Equipment $2,585
-- Comfort Package $850
-- Power Steering $450
-- smart Premium Sound System $350
-- Heated Seats $220
-- Silver Metallic Tridion Safety Cell $175
-- Alarm System $160
-- smart Premium Radio $150
-- Additional Instruments $120
-- Fog Lamps $110
Color Adjustment - - $0
light yellow
Destination Charge $600

Total with Options $16,775

That is not quite right as Power steering and seat heaters are in the price of the comfort package. I also think that the $150 premium radio is included in the Passion or it is included in the $350 sound system package.

I selected every option on the list, Edmunds doesn't know what is included in what package. Point is that the individual prices are correct so we are assuming the $600 destination price is.

No problem just wanted to let a newbie know that Edmunds is not quite correct on cost

About the only gripe I have with Edmund's price guides is the fact that their software is not sophisticated enough to Grey out items or combinations that are not allowed.

On some vehicles, especially those with a lot of "package" options, it becomes real tedious to configure a vehicle....

What I MOST like about Edmund's data is for the last 7 years the invoice cost and actual cost of the different options has always been right on the money...

Hell, when I researched my New 05 King Ranch F350, Edmund's had better data on option costs then the FoMoCo new truck configuration site had...

In fact the Ford site has been hosed up for about 6 years now despite my sending them detailed feedback about what is wrong and how to fix it.... Hummmm, sort of like IB's SmartUSA site, but that is another rant elsewhere

I tend to think Edmund's has folks who research these things and in the absence of real facts, they generally make good estimations

Thus I believe the $600 destination charge should be real close
