DRL software fix for 08s at dealers?

Just saw this posted on smartusainsider.com:

Quote:
I found out this week that Smart now can add the daytime running lights to 08's via a software download. I just had mine installed for $70 by my dealer in Walnut Creek, Ca. This mode puts out 50% of the headlight output, and one can turn off/on the mode by clicking the unlock/high light at the same time. Nice to have this added safety feature... Apparently this is not known by all Smart dealers; if you need to contact my dealer- his number is 925-482-8740 (Hugo).
Very interesting; $50 as a factory option, $70 at the dealer -

If this is accurate, adding DRLs and the upcoming shifter reprogram will leave our 08 minus only the heated seats on the inbound 09 - not enough reason to take the 09 IMHO.

Well, slightly different in that the fog lights exist physically; the DRL fix is just a matter of reprogramming. This is akin to being charged some outrageous fee by the phone company to "activate" your phone service, which is done electronically and probably by computer as well.

My guess (and it's only that) would be no, as the DRLs don't seem to be compatible with the auto lights and wipers.

That is cheap. I could of swore we were told 400 or more at our dealer. But I could be wrong. When I heard the number, I was shaking my head thinking that the price is insane. Especially when we were told that ALL the wiring is there for the fog lights. All they have to do is insall the fog lights plus grill. Then go inside and install the button. So any more then $200 would be a rip off in my thoughts. Probably take maybe an hour tops to install them.

I sent E-mail to smartusa about DRL and got this back:

Dear smart Enthusiast, Day time running lamps are still available for the smart fortwo during the configuration portion of the program and may also be installed after the vehicle has been delivered by our smart centers. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us via email or by phone at 1.800.smartUSA. Thank you for your interest in smart USA. You will be hearing from us soon! Daniel Moore Customer Service 1.800.smartUSA www.smartUSA.com

My question is What all comes on with the DRL ( what lights) all or just front headlights?
