EV World reports that according to Popular Mechanics the smart Electric Drive may arrive in US Showrooms as soon as 2009!!

Yea, but it's an older report...I don't believe we'll see it before 2010. By then, I'll be looking at the new BMV Isetta.

First thing I thought of when I saw the ED designation but I think the Bob Dole edition smart EV would be a hit!!

I'd love the ED edition. I even asked smartusa about it for the 2010 lineup, but they replied back that they have not made any announcement that they will bring it to the US. I asked to be on their list for an ED model, but they claim to not have any such list.

I know several people who would buy a smart ED model right now if it had a 300 mi. range at freeway speeds. I saw a EV roadster (not a smart) produved by AC Propulsion, that towed a gasoline powered generator set...optional hybrid!!
