The OE alarm would be useful, in that the car would howl if it's being shifted.....these criminals should not be getting attention at any website that purports to be pro-smart. It just encourages the morons.

I am getting a Smart this winter/early spring and I am very worried about people trying to tip it. For most of the year I am away from home and living at college. There is a good chance a bunch of drunk college kids would come and flip my future car.

Is there anything you can do to prevent this? An alarm will not be enough since the car will be in a parking lot behind my building.

It's a real shame.

You could rig up some razor-wire under the easy lift-points of the car... The better razor wire easily cuts through thick leather gloves (found out the hard way installing some on a fence). If the car can be tipped by rocking the car by pushing around the top of the door frame -- this trick won't help much... But, I did try rocking my car by pushing on the top (testing the suspension) and didn't get any wheels off the ground even with my best efforts. Since some Smarts have been flipped on their rear hatch -- that would imply that the method most kids are using are to lift under a side or the front of the car. The only hard part to rigging the razor wire would be just inside the wheel wells... The clearance to the tire is small and there aren't as many convenient attachment points. Still, nothing installing a few nut-serts wouldn't fix!

As for an alarm, I believe it works. I was putting my bike on the other day and bounced the back of the car a couple of times making sure the rack was tight and the alarm went off. I think if someone was trying to tip the car and the alarm went off, they would probably run. All I see is the little Smart crying out for help with its alarm and then pushed on its side, crying.

I wish people wouldn't use the word prankster or prank when it involves a criminal offense punishable by jail time. A prank doesn't involve breaking laws. It's called a crime. The more people accept this the less of these types of behaviors will be justified without jail sentences.

It's criminal. Not a Prank.
