Electric Smart Car in Arizona

There is a guy in Arizona Jim Laurence who has put up a website azsmartcar and he is collecting $99/order which is now non-refundable. I have been on his list for three weeks and have seen or heard nothing other than fake promises. Phone calls and emails go unanswered - has anyone actually seen or been able to purchase one of these EV Smart cars?

Why the large type?

These appear to be based on 450 models, not the 451 being imported by Penske as 2008 smarts. Don't know who is doing the conversion and getting DOT/EPA (not that it would be needed) for these. Non-refundable deposit, high price, and a claimed range longer than anything being touted commercially for other electric cars coming in the near future. Caveat emptor!

What do you mean ". . . based on the 450 models and not the 451 Penske models"?

The cars shown on his website have the tail and headlights of the earlier models sold only in Europe and Canada, referred to as 450s. The cars being imported and sold by Penske now are the updated versions, referred to as 451 models.

How about just calling that Reply #1 and then you won't have to type it all out every time you post it.

I'm new

Sorry folks this is my first day on this forum - I'm trying to catch up. Thanks for your help and information. There is just so much information on this site it will take days if not weeks to go through it all. I was hoping to hear that someone other than me is trying to purchase on of these. The specs look almost too good to be true and hence they probably are.

Not a problem, sorta like being fed with a fire hose when you first start. Using the search feature helps. Welcome!
