According to the website the car is to powered with Nano technology batteries and from what I have read about them, they are far superior to lithium ion or any other battery technology known to man. They have a life expectancy of nearly 25 years and can be cycled/charged in excess of 9,000 times! With the onboard generator for short charging it would almost make it like a "pre-Volt". . .

Sounds like a ZAP do-over to me. I wouldn't go there.

The above link covers the pros and cons of both lithium ion and nano technology batteries. It is a little bit long to read but it is well worth the time to do so if someone is thinking about such a purchase - this info just goes to show how fast things are changing and improving. By the time GM gets their Volt to market with Lithium ion batteries it will be out of date.

Well still being strung along - 2 phone calls and an email requesting that my $99 deposit be refunded has generated a generic email that says the guy was in Boston and would not be back until Tuesday. Today is Wednesday and still nothing. . .

Well that is a complete waste of someone hard earned dollars. No need to be on the leading edge. If you want to feel warm and fuzzy about helping the environment buy a Prius or similar widely marketed vehicle. Even if I had the money to buy one of these things I wouldn't. I would take the price difference between a Prius and these gadgets and donate it to my favorite charity. Some people can really go overboard with being earth friendly. SMART2008 I am not making fun of you. I don't know how long you have researched this or what promises were originally made. My environmental stance is just that there are plenty of other ways to help mother earth which are cost effective and not life changing.

Thanks for your opinion(s), I didn't know that this forum was for that purpose - I don't need another Prius, the one I have now is enough thank you very much. If one does a cost analysis of what an electric car will consume in electricity verses an oil/gas burner you will see there is a huge cost savings over time. Factor in to the equation that oil changes, filters (oil, air, and gas), along with the labor associated with these required oil/gas burners maintanence items all get eliminated for an additional cost savings. It takes seconds to plug in or unplug an electric car when parked in your garage which is always warmer in the winter than standing outside in subzero wind chill factors while pumping fuel. In short to each their own, I would not replace my Prius hybrid at this point but I want to take the next step into the future and not get scammed at trying to do so. Keep in mind that I am not promoting a $100k Tesla or Tango, just an EV Smart car that is about twice the price of a Smart gas burner (which BTW doesn't even come close to the mpg ratings, comfort, or passenger capacity of a Prius). Obviously you know now I hope that I have put a lot of research into Electric Vehicles.

Honda Insight? Not the size of the Prius but available.... All I am saying is I would wait for a production model, like the Smart, like the Prius. A hydrogen powered vehicle would be great to. Vaporware at the moment.

So I guess you don't want anyone elses opinion? You were complaining about being scammed. While cars like the Prius, Insight, etc are widely known and available I merely stated that might be a better choice vs trying to be on the bleeding edge of technology. Good luck in your quest to save mother earth. I would spend my money elsewhere in other present day sources whether for my car or home.

just my 'swag' here, but since that ad was mentioning "China" as the country of origin, i would guess that these 'smart' cars are those 'look a likes' that have tube chassis's and have absolutely NO crash protection. kind of like buying a golf cart and attempting to drive it on I-70!!!

they also had a vehicle by the name of "Fuel" for sale as well. AND an "Electric Bus"......i'm not canceling my order for my smart just yet, but that's just me.....
