Back in the elder days of good natured computer fun (hacking) ordinary people who built auto dialers in their spare time would use them to call around and find data transmission lines to play with. Once they found one they still needed to get access in order to play any of the reindeer games. The bestest kind of access to have was someting the eldars called "Root". Often they would hear somebody running down the hall screaming "I GOT ROOT!" "I GOT ROOT". Eventualy it came to mean "I got what I was working/waiting for" or "I got what I wanted". Even more evenutally it was shortened to "Root!" then "WOOT!" then w00t!.
Most people old enough to remember all this are dead now but you can still get pretty good deals on geeky electronics type stuff at the deal-per-day website
www.woot.com. I buy something from them about once a month. I think today they are selling a three pack of fm transmitters for 9.95. I paid three times that much for ONE of the exact same modle not more than nine months ago...
so... now ya' know.
