"Hey is that an electric car?"

"No! it isn't"
Is what we all say right? Our smart runs on good ol' gasoline, and gets good MPG.

Well this is one question that we may never get stopped asked becasue this morning when I read the USA Today. I saw a full page ad featuring an electric car that gets up to 80 mph and goes 120 miles/charge. And the car the had in the image was a Smart, of course.

So its time to give some people some slack becasue its been advertised as an electric car.

I read somewhere that the electric smart is being tested in the U.K. and may be tested in this country. That would be cool.

From the article, it sounds like it will be about 5 years before we see a production smart hybrid. Quote from article follows below:

"Mercedes says it has solved those issues for the hybrid batteries and hopes to say the same soon for a different version needed for its pure electric car based on its Smart brand of tiny two-seaters."

"Our plan in the next two to three years is to have a test fleet of Smart electric vehicles," Mercedes engineer and Vice President Herbert Kohler, who heads advanced powertrain operations, said in an interview at the auto show here. He said it would take several years to be sure the setup is right for mass production.

USA car is hybr.ob by Hybrid Technologies

My wife just called me about the article in USA Today, and I looked it up online. It LOOKS just like a smart fortwo alright, but it's all electric and designed strictly for city use, 'kinda like a bunch of Chinese-made electric cars running around Olympia/Lacey, WA. They look a LOT like smartcars, but I guarantee you that they don't have the crash-worthiness, TRIDION safety cell, and highway capability of a smart fortwo. As we've ALL heard before......"LOOKS AREN'T EVERYTHING!"

No, what I saw was not an article, it was an advertisement towards this website:

http://www.hybridtechnologies.com/products/cars/dash

It Looks like a 450 model though.

Yep............that's the same one alright! When she brought home the page that she was referring to, it turns out that it was nothing but a full-page advertisement to try and get you to invest in the Hybrid Tech stocks! It talked about various cars that were being used by the military, etc. Doesn't look like anything that's in or even NEAR production at all!!! I'll stick with my smartie....thank you!!!

Is that thing electric?

Yes... I had a good laugh one day while pumping gas into my SMART at a BP station. Standing there, fueling up with nozzle in hand a gentleman walks up asking.... Is that one of those electric cars? I guess I should have answered, YES... this is my portable fuel tank for my wife's car!
