Got a call from my unofficial dealer today. He said that he would have the reservation list within a few days and should be letting me know where I stand by the end of next week, so there seems to be some progress.
While I am as frustrated as anyone with the seeming delays and lack of specific and actionable information we now have info from Carnut that the 14th or 15th is the day, Kettenbeil says the 14th or 15th is the day and the Sarasota dealer whose showroom is already open says he expects cars between the 11th and the 17th.
Sooooooooo, hopefully we are getting closer to a date certain than we have been and we just need to cross our fingers and hope it turns out to be true.
Continue to hang in there, it may not be long now.
Yeah, I have to agree that it would be nice to have been at least contacted and told there would be a dealer close by, or something specific, since placing the reservation last March. We are lucky in that we live in SF and it was a safe bet there would be a dealer here, but I feel for people elsewhere who have reservations without being told if they would even have a dealer in reasonable distance.
I really hope its not a big thing to get a decent test drive, hills included, considering how poor the road event was too (driving around the block in a 'vert with no power steering and someone who couldn't answer any questions really didn't help much).
Just heard from a dealer north of here that they are still waiting on California State dealer license and EPA releases and DCS (the computer guys) say about two weeks to get smart Connect hooked up and running (that's the tracking all the way to auto finance system). Tools have not yet arrived for the repair guys. I imagine the guys on the showroom floor are raring to go! Looks like Jan 15 is the date!
BTW this is all within the announcement posted on smartusa.com just before Christmas.

Really, it's JUST a car. This shouldn't be some "life-altering" event the consumes all of your focus. The world will still end regardless of whether or not you get your car at the time you think you should.
Regardless, thanks for the infor Kwagar...beats the heck out of some Christmas greeting with a "Newsletter Volume 10" headline.
Thanks for sharing. I had already pointed this out in two previous posts.
January 14th - 15th is the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Without a link through smart Connect a dealer is powerless.
I spoke with our local authorized Smart dealer today and she told me that very same thing. Our center will be ready next week and she is expecting cars on or about January 15th! YYeeeeeeeeeeeeeHahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
At that time they will begin to contact local reservation holders and begin to
DO THE DEALS!!! And that means me!!! Our time is not far off now!
