I think the top half is NOT an ad - but a "review" by the paper, and the ad (beginning with SMART THINGS COME IN...) convieniently placed below it.
Notice the review has no logo - and even gets the capitlization incorrect. Too bad about the ad copy being so horrible - it was likely written by the advertising salesman at the paper and the dealership approved it without really reading it.
Here in Las Vegas it looks like Towbin Auto Group will be our dealer. Its out by Sahara and Jones in or near the Towbin Bentley dealership. At least we'll be in good company!

More like an "advertorial." This is an advertising section, and all copy is prepared by the advertising department at the newspaper to make it to the liking of the participating auto dealer advertisers.
I was told at Smithtown Mercedes that Smart was being set up down the street. We need one in Long Island! I don't want to go to CT or Jersey or Albany for service!
Yes, there are non M-B dealers in certain cities. Roger Penske looked at the dealers with the best customer service and supposedly chose based on that rather than brand allegiance.
The thing I mentioned about San Diego being the national distributor was from the mouth of what appeared to be a knowledgeable salesman. So take it for what it's worth ... I don't think he was a "used car" sales guy ...
If anyone has Google Earth, look up these two coordinates:
Lat 32.653, Lon -117.12 ... that's the car-port in San Diego. If cars are coming to the west coast, it'll be cheaper to leave them on the ship and unload here than put 'em on rail across the country. You can see all the cars already there and the rail infrastructure too.
Lat 32.824, Lon -117.147 ... This is MB of San Diego. If it's true they are the distributor, start planning your road-trip!
I'll go back over there to see if I can confirm what they said and try to grab a few pics.
I think BMW/MB of San Diego belong to PAG, so when they say "they are distributor", I think they mean they are owned by PAG, who is the distributor.

I'm sure he did with preference in this order 1) Penske owned dealers 2) MB dealers 3) everyone else.
Instead of Mercedes of Palm Beach, I think it's actually Maserati of Palm Beach. They may be the same, but Maserati is what comes up on my caller ID when they call me. I've talked to Dawn there, and they sound like good folks. I'm thinking they will be my dealer, since they are about 85 miles from me (Vero Beach) and Orlando is farther.
