A little salt on your Smart sir?

I know there is an old thread on this somewhere, that said you cannot run the Smart through the automatic car wash.

But here is a reply from Smart that I missed in my e-mail. I'm sure it will interst those of us in snow/salt country.

Dear smart Enthusiast The smart fortwo is 8.8 feet long, 5.1 feet tall, 5.1 feet wide. The smart fortwo is a regular vehicle and should be able to run safely through an automatic car wash. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us via email or by phone at 1.800.smartusa. Thank you for your interest in smart USA. You will be hearing from us soon! Sure, you can run it through an automatic car wash, but the brushes won't reach it! There's a photo showing just such a phenomenon floating around somewhere.

It's the quarter car wash for me.

Sisyphus.

That was a 450. The 451 is wider. I too saw that pix.

I wouldn't go through a car wash with brushes anyway. It's either hand wash or touchless for me.

Car wash Brushes? Are you serious? Down here we use brushless car washes.

Car wash Brushes are known to trap sand, gravel, cinder ash, and other very abrasive particles that will damage most clear coats....

Twice a year My dinky car will get a good hand wash, clay bar, and careful application of several coats of carnuba wax then once every other week a full laser wash n smell good as part of the fuel fill up

I may even spring for the full Ziano (Sp?) treatment for this Lil Bugger...

Nothing but Liquid Glass for mine. Each application will last at least a couple of years. Just rinse off the dirt. Clay bar will never be necessary.

In the 451 owners manual they say you can use an automatic car wash, but that water "can" run down the inside of the windows. they also advise to remove the antenna.

I'm looking forward to going though one of the touchless automatic car wash just to watch everything via the big roof and maybe take a photo/video

The 450 is 4.97 feet wide. I don't think the extra 1.6 inch in with will reach the brush.

Just get a friend with another smart and save money by both hopping in the car wash at the same time. ;)
