Motor Week road test of the Smart Fortwo.
"
So, is it smart to buy a smart? Well, that depends on what you expect from a small car. There are plenty of more useful four- and five-seat subcompacts for the same price. But they won't make the same super trendy statement as the smart. We definitely think this micro car has appeal, and it is certainly competent enough to find a niche. So, while the smart fortwo is something of a fashion statement, driving it will also make you smile. "

There must be something different with my Little UFO, I get a consistent 40 MPG and everynow and again as high as 43 MPG. The is typical suburb driving, going to work, Walmart, Home Depot, Chinese Take out, and for that last minute stop at the grocery. No heavy stop and go but lots of 35-70 MPH runs all around. The delta between Premium and Regular gas is less that a burger at McDonalds. The Smart is what it is, and I would buy another if something happened to this one.

Had mine nineteen months now. Every single time I go out, the same questions, and the same "I'll trade ya even right now" offers. Bear in mind that these same automobile writers complain about the seat heaters in a car not heating fast enough. Too many MB's and BMW's etc. The 40 mpg just never gets old.

My milage at the last fill up was 39.4 to the gallon and yet this bozo driving a Lincoln Navigator asked the infamous what kind of milage do you get. Oh he was really impressed and then after my father cut in and made some comments in a good way ( This was after he said "id be afraid of being done in by an 18 wheeler, i said "no vehicle survives a wreck with an 18 wheeler") he then said to him "i saw that thing and dang i thought it was one of those Fred Flintstone cars".
To every curious person there is always some smarty pants in a big splashy SUV type who seems to be the "know it all". Talk about a

My wife and I are getting great mileage right now. They are only a month old and I expect the mileage to continue to trend up. I track it on Fuelly.com
