For me it was only a $175.00 ( 400-225=175 )since the red is not an extra now. At least that is how I will look at it. and Yes I did check my E-mailed link to configure details and it did go up $400.00

Builder Link Missing

I thought something might be up. The website still shows the old base MSRP but the 'Build your smart car' link is missing.

I think that is a reasonable increase. I feel if true we still are getting a good deal for the money.

There was apparently considerable pressure NOT to increase MSRP by more than $409 this time-
Any 2010 MSRP predictions?

just checked my configuration link and yep. Went up by $400. That is really not that bad if you think about what they added. A sensor for the gas cap, the wiring to the ECU. And reprogram of it, that sounds like pretty fair deal. Also, if you have the Passion, you get solid roof so can't complain, that is if you want solid roof. Then there is the netting that costs more then the plastic for the door pockets. My dealer was estimating about $300. So, he was off a hundred. Still good deal.

Wonder if it's possible to swap the pockets for the netting? If so, I may keep our 08 until the 09 (or 2010) shows up and switch them out - prefer the pockets over more netting.

Here's the latest news

Hello smart fortwo Enthusiasts!

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for the smart brand. I know it has been a while since my last blog but smart USA has been busy finalizing 2009 model year details. There is a lot of information to share with you, so let’s get to it.

Production of the 2009 model year smart fortwo started on Monday, September 29th. Introductory prices for the 2009 model will remain unchanged from the 2008 model. However, beginning with shipments to smart center dealers from January 1, 2009, the base prices for the three 2009 models will increase by $400. This increase on a percentage basis amounts to 2.5% compared to the average MSRP of the smart model line. Again, this price increase does not go into effect until January 1, 2009.

Even with this price increase, smart fortwo pricing still remains under the price points shared with smart enthusiasts back in 2007. At that time we shared that pricing for the base model pure would start under $12,000, under $14,000 for the passion coupe and under $17,000 for the passion cabriolet. Further, there is no price increase to any of the 2009 individual factory installed options or option packages.

For 2009 we have two new colors – rally red and metallic gray, while the red metallic and yellow that was offered with the 2008 model will be discontinued. We also have new door storage nets, a loose gas cap indicator light has been added to the instrument panel, and the passion coupe can now be ordered with a solid roof.

One new addition to our line up of options is daytime running lights. This option can be ordered on any model for the cost of $50.00.

Again, thank you for your ownership and enthusiasm. I look forward to sharing additional smart USA news with you very soon. I also look forward to reviewing your comments, feedback and suggestions.

Kind regards,

Dave
