MT reader passed by smart: Most embarrassing

If being passed by a smart is the worst thing that happens to you, then you're probably doing all right...

Thread of the Day: What's Your Most Embarrassing Moment Behind the Wheel? | Motortrend News & Auto Blog - Wide Open Throttle

"We've all had them. And most of the time, we'd love to forget them. Nevertheless, embarrassing moments behind the wheel are a part of driving for virtually everyone.

Asks TOTD author atvman, 'Did a hot girl (or guy) catch you picking your nose at a stop light? Did you try to drag race somebody only to blow your transmission on the start? Did you have to drive a Prius?'

Atvman recently gained some inspiration for the thread when a Smart fortwo passed him on his way home from work. 'I can't think of anything more embarrassing that has happened to me,' he notes."

Classic! Shattering one more h!<Ks preconception that a car this small can't drive that fast.

Yep. The bubbas around here have a fit on the mornings I'm running late and decide to open it up. As a matter of fact earlier today while I was driving I was reminded of the old song "Beep Beep" when I passed someone.

I probably embarrass a lot of folks when my 82 300D passes them up. Then to add insult to injury, I sometimes give em a little soot blast (aka: tailgater proximity regulator ) when I hit the kickdown and drop into passing gear and get that turbo spinning. In recent years, Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel has taken away a lot of my soot clouds, therefore I can't embarrass those I pass as severely or keep those tailgaters away like I used to. However, if I've done a lot of city driving recently and haven't gotten that carbon cleared out on the highway in a while, I can make a nice cloud like the old days.

Yea, I remember those old MB diesels. Back in the early '80s I ran across one getting onto I-75 I think it was, down in Sarasota Florida. When the light changed with the 2 lanes merging into one to enter up the ramp, he looked over, saw my 'old beater' that was totally stripped of chrome, ready to paint. I think at that moment he thought 'this will be no problem getting in front of him' and 'nailed it', black soot and smoke bellowing out the back.

I was slightly behind him and then I thought to myself "Enough is enough" and nailed it myself. I BLEW PAST HIM as if he were sitting still. I'm sure he had no clue that the 'old beater' I was driving was a '64 Chrysler 300K with a 413 and cross-rams! HA! I'm sure HE was totally EMBARRASSED!
