Nope, makes no sense, it was a total blunder on their part (and its probably not ever accurate). No idea what they were thinking.

People are frustrated and venting, its natural. As someone who bought and didn't keep a car, though, I don't know why it seems like you are goading them, unless I'm misunderstanding you

Personally, I think everyone needs to calm down and not be so irrational. Give it a few days to see where this thing goes and if we will get any updates on it. Like I have said before, there is nothing to say that we won't be following the 90-120 day trend that we have had so far.
yeah well i confirmed around the 2nd week of march and now they are saying i should take delivery in dec 08- feb -09!!! thats not 90-120 days. me no think so! i'm gonna wait it out a few weeks and if nothing changes well guess what, i think i'll be looking at a mini, honda hybrid, or prius. i can be patient and have been, but that's just ridiculous!

Also, keep in mind when some people were given a 30 day window, they were raising holy heck if it got to 31 days and they still didn't have their car. Do you really think they want to nail down a small window for the thousands of people who are bitting their nails waiting for their car? If that becomes inaccurate, smartUSA will have a lot more angry customers to deal with... It's always easier to under promise and over deliver. Period.

It seems to me their trying whatever they can to make their patiently waiting customer happy... Problem is... we're impatient Americans who are kinda hard to please. Tough break for them...

I've been lurking in these forums for a while and I guess I feel compelled to post. It is very hard to be patient when you really find the Smart such a great car and so many others have as well, thus the fantastic demand. We are reaping the results of so many factors that came together at this time. It is a shame that Smart was or is not able to take better advantage of this convergence of factors. I think Smart is doing the best that can be done to give us some usable info but I sure wish that there had been more info given way up front. I don't think it would have change my decision but it would have made the wait easier.

It’s not just the impatience part. Yes we all want our smarts now. I understand and I’m part of it too. But it’s a lot of everything else. It’s everything all balled up in one giant mess.

1. From the reservation #s not making sense. No rhyme no reasoning other than the date you reserved.
2. From people reserving later in the reservation program after others have been waiting what seems endlessly and somehow somebody else get their smart car delivery magically because they live in the right city where the demand is less.
3. From the rising gas prices that are killing us by the week.
4. From the dealers gouging orphans in extra add on crap that nobody wants to take advantage of us because of smart supply problem to the tune of $2000.00 to $3000.00
Depending on the dealer and their location.
5. From the smart dealers not knowing exactly what’s going on from day to day telling us to call smart USA direct and they don’t know exactly either.
6. From the smart forums like this one and clubsmartcar knowing more information about deliveries than smart USA themselves according to a You Tube video I saw recently from the VP of smart. Don't believe me go check it out for yourself.
7. From orphans not going to reservation holders first.

Yes we are impatient Americans. Yes we want the car now. But I think for many it has become a need more than a want. Now smart is telling us that possibly our smarts will not be here for (x) amount of time. People including myself according the estimator total time will be 18-20 months wait from my original reservation date?

Impatience my a#%. This is plain old frustration.

This is just like people who are driving off the lot and expecting a brand ew car to get 40 mpg... things take time.

They are pissing a lot of people off, but fact of the matter is we don't know all of the inner workings of PAG and smart. Getting upset is not going to help matters any... if there is a mass exodus of people, do you not think they are going to do something?

All it takes is word of this to hit the media, and things are going to go downhill for them quickly. Penske is far from an idiot, and while all of this can be handled much better, I don't think there is one person here who could walk in there and do a better job knowing what we know now.

Like I have said before, I think we are all going to be beating their estimates.
I guess I am a patient person. When I reserved last March, they said that I would get a confirmation letter around September. You know what? I forgot about the smart. I went on with my life and right around September, it popped back in my head. I did not get my config letter until October 20th but I was happy to get it, so I configured. They said first quarter 08. OK...first quarter is Jan 1 to March 31...it is October, so...I forgot about my smart, until about January. Then I returned to this forum and started reading. I had hoped for my smart around mid February and got it on March 3. Except for the doc fees thing, I did not feel that smart did me wrong at all.

This car gets more fun every day.

I dont know what to tell all of you, you have to decide what to do, either cancel your reservation to give someone else a chance, or hold on and wait.

If you cancel, forget about it, go buy that Toyota with no esc or abs and enjoy its reliability and close dealerships.

If you dont cancel, Just forget about it. Leave this forum if you have to. One day, when you least expect it, because you forgot, you will get an email or a call and then you can start tracking your cargo ship and wondering how many days it takes a truck to bring your smart home. To sit here and obsess about this for 12-18 months is just bad for you.

My advice...free....and worth every penny.

I agree.

I guess it is because this is a toy for me, rather than a necessity, my opinion is different. It doesn't make much sense to go crazy the day this came out until we know how this pans out for a few weeks.

I think one of the problems that the DDE pinged was what each of us are using our smart for. Mine will be my car, and only car (or i get a winter beater). If it is a toy does it matter when it arrives? Also working into this is the rumor of 4 dollar a gallon gas... 40 mpg sounds really good RIGHT NOW! (sorry if I offended by yelling).

Also it depends on what is being traded in... My Neon should last to September no problems. For those who reserved and got an 09 or almost 2010 date, that is a big problem.

So, we shall see. I wonder if after a few weeks if the numbers will change...
