New Smart center to open soon...

I contacted Smartusa about them opening up a new center near me in Jackson, MS...here is there reply...

"Dear smart Enthusiast, What you've heard is correct, there is a smart center scheduled to open in Jackson, MS in the Second Quarter of 2008. We hope this helps you in your decision to purchase a smart fortwo as a replacement for your current vehicle. Thank you for your interest in smart USA!"

Woot this is good....if your put on a list is that by the smart center or are you in the same pool with everyone else?

Depends; if your car isn't on the way before the Jackson center opens they'll match your zip code to Jackson; if it's due to arrive before then they'll match you to what they think is the closest smart center. That's unless things have changed since the initial deliveries.

Congrats. As a former Biloxi boy (my father is a retired hurricane-hunter AF Reserve pilot out of Keesler AFB), I had noticed a rather large gap between dealerships in the Atlanta-Jacksonville-Houston triangle. This had me worried in the unlikely event that I would be going back to my old stomping grounds to visit friends and needed service. Fortunately, I moved my parents down here to Florida two weeks before Katrina. I haven't been back but once since then.

This is great. I'm only 4 hours from Jackson... and given the state of I-10 through LA, I'm 9 hours from Houston despite Google's claims of 7. I drive halfway to Jackson once every few months anyway, so maybe I can get my maintenance done by the dealer after all.

There should be one in Birmingham, also, Q2 2008... but I read somewhere they haven't broken ground yet. They'd better get cracking, or they'll lose out on peak sales.

Here is the email I got Yesterday:

"We have started our building but it will be late June or first part of July before we have the Smart Car. We will receive more information I would think by the time we have the Smart Car in stock. We will be contacting you again when we have some of the Smart Cars. If you have any additional questions please contact me at anytime."

Notice she capitalizes 'smart'.

That means IF they contact me to configure in July, it'll be 90 days after THAT until delivery. Thats 10 months since deposit. ...lets see...Yaris...Fit...Aveo...hummm...
