In the marine shipping business, shippers with a periodic through-put usually pre-book space in standard “blocks” so that the various interests (including M-B, MINI, BMW, etc.) can be continuously coordinated. In the case of PCTCs the block will be in the form of X-number of square meters of deck space. They pay for that full deck allocation and will try to fill it, with no broken stowage. If 195 or 200 cars represents smart’s block load for a voyage, within a few sailings it will become evident what the monthly delivery rate is, and from that, what the monthly factory production is. And from that, what the yearly number will be. If it turns out that there are 2,000 cars per month being delivered, spread over ten or a dozen voyages, that argues a 2,000/month production and 24,000/year.
