IMHO, the Chevy Aveo (Korean) does not EVEN compare, it's ugly and cheezy. The Yaris is the closest car that'd match the Smart's Quality....but the dealers have them loaded up with unneeded options. It is my next choice if I can't get my Smarty in time. I can't wait till next Fall.

there are bigger, just as fuel-friendly, four-seater subcompacts out there that cost roughly the same or even less.
Nobody......I said nobody can match the Smarts Mileage. The best the Yaris can do is 34mpg avg.. Four seater usually means four-door which I hate. It's un-needed and makes for a less stylish vehicle. Again the Yaris Lift back is pretty cool to look at. and the Yaris will match the price $$ starting around $11,500.

DRLs

I note the answer to a question that has been posed here previously - will the smarts have daytime running lights (DRLs). The video included within the MarketWatch article indicates that they will.

Lewis,
I just got back from Spain where I rented and drove some small Citroen 2 CD.
It is very small car with even smaller turbo diesel engine.
It runs very nice and even had some pickup.
I drove the heck out of it. For a week I was all over the place, I even went to town called Toledo (some 40-50 ml from Madrid).
I don't know how many miles I put on, but again I drove it a lot.
Last day I fill it up and it cost me 15 Eu to top the tank.
I love those small diesels.

they should, and if unchanged from the 450, will be programmable on/off via the key fob (remote).

almost 3 years later, you are still correct. Aveo was so cheezy they had to change it to the Sonic and the smarts' mileage is still very very hard to beat!

Perhaps we've found the true cause of the tsunami???

Anyway... it is fun to revisit some of the old thoughts/opinions/rumors from years ago, to see how right (or wrong) they were.
