I have to say, I've been lucky, I guess. I've had no issues with the car (knock on wood) but when I emailed TJ about the Front License Plate Bracket, he got back to me later the same day. I also got a call from Ryan a few days after I picked up the car to see if I had any questions. I had a good experience, but having worked in several sales/service industries, I consider myself a little more accepting of delays, etc.
Well saying that is sucks is probably an overstatement, however, they need to improve. Just simply calling after you buy a car is what every single dealership does after a sell. It does not equate to good customer service. For example, the second day I owned the car the holder for the information booklets fell apart. I called Ryan who said he would take care of it, no further response. I asked to be notified when the floor mats where in, I found out from Vlads posts here that they were in. Numerous times I have called and no one is even in to take the call, if I do leave a message, only about 50% of the time do I here back. I have purchased 15 new cars in the last 10 years. My concerns are probably petty. However, I do think there is room for improvement. As for the car itself, I love it. It is worth the 18,500. I am not sure I would repeat on the extended warranty. I have 1400 miles on it with no issues so far. We should have all the Smarties get together for a drive when it gets warmer. I had my top down this past weekend.
I'll let you guys know how my experience in LaVista turns out. May be a while. 1227 configured on 2/1. I emailed them today to see if they have any information.
Other then they have been hard to get a hold of at times, I have nothing but good things to say about Ryan and TJ and the Omaha dealer. They have treated me very well.
Except for the bogus doc fee...,right? I work at a county clerk's office. I asked a car salesman from Jack Keef Ford what a doc fee consisted of. He said it was a "paperwork fee," which was an add-on fee. They do not charge a doc fee.
That's my only apprehension........

The doc fee will only be changed if we as consumers demand it from our state legislatures, unfortunately, Nebraska is not a very consumer friendly state.
Just for fun I checked my last 4 new car purchases (not counting the Smart) and the most I paid for a doc fee was Markel BMW at $97. Huber Saab and Williamson Honda (in Lincoln) charged $0 doc fee. I could be wrong, but I would guess most people negotiate the doc fee away as part of the negotiation process and Performance therefore would rarely collect the fee on their other car lines (except maybe Lexus where I hear the word negotiate is a foreign concept). Obviously on our Smart Cars we had little (i.e. no) room to negotiate so we were SOL. Now if my Chrome Package would ever show up!
Anyway... I'm all for a get together one of these weekends when the weather gets nice!
They are overworked, and young. Tal Anderson should have put a bit more experience into a new line that is drawing a lot of interest.
You cannot negotiate the doc fee as in the sale contract, that is the only number that is preprinted, meaning everyone pays regardless. Another way to make 279. I am not sure exactly what that pays for. It is the most I have ever payed in the fourteen cars I have had in the last 15 years.
Gas is going to approach four dollars a gallon this summer, won't we all look SMART. LOL
When I've been in the showroom it's exactly like you said, lots of customers with nobody to show them anything. It is kind of fun to answer all the questions though. Personally I'm starting to lose interest in the smart. People way behind me on the list walking in and getting a car before I do really upsets me. Poor service, no information, the novelty is wearing off.
