Passenger Airbag + Children?

Please move this if I posted in the wrong area.

I'm wondering what the provisions are for children in the Smart passenger seat. I searched and found something about a restraint that disables the airbags. I can see this functioning for infants in baby seats. My daughter is 10 (probably 11 by the time our Smart arrives). Our law shows 13 and under should be in backseat when practicle.

What is the offical word on children of various ages and sizes from Smart?

PS. Loved the test drive here in Portland!

There was (maybe still will be) a child seat available for the 2005 smarts, and described thusly: “Seat booster with backrest: For children weighing between 15 and 36 kg (ed. 33 lbs-79 lbs). With removable backrest and extra-large lateral support. Available in a choice of three colours.”

smart Part Numbers:
Seat Booster - Q0002617V002C80Y00
Backrest - Q0004663V002C80Y00

This seat was the largest of the three available.

So then when there is no back seat it is not practicle.
I would think an 11 year old could just buckle up and hit the road. Boy....where would we be without laws to protect us dumb citizens
