Hi Gang,
Just an update from my adventures yesterday at smartcenter in Edison, NJ. I was happy to meet Danny Wong in person and I must say it was an absolute pleasure. He is even more personable in person as well as being a cutie pie. (Sorry but I had to say that!) He set me well at ease with his knowledge and enthusiasm for the smart launch. I am very impressed and can see that he is committed to giving each of us the best delivery experience possible.
The showroom was so prestine and white with touches of yellow and black. The place almost felt like heaven and the design was soothing but very modern. The black exterior is awaiting the new smartcenter logo and the interior (although complete) is awaiting some additional large scale pixs (smarts in motion), accessories, a slew of happy staffers, elated customers, fun demos and our lovely reserved smarts. I'm so glad Ray Catena takes this launch seriously because they are open now. Danny is just waiting for his packet of information to give him access to the smart dealer website. With one of the largest smart showrooms in the country, smart center of Edision is very impressive and you know they mean business. From what Danny said, they will be responsible for delivering smarts for NYC as well as a good portion of New Jersey. He has been on the phone non-stop with folks who have reserved and folks who haven't but who want the car. Lots of interest came their way after putting an ad in the NY Times.
Well thanks enough for now. As I sign off, a special thanks to Leigh as well because she again made me feel welcomed. I highly recommend you all vist your smart centers as soon as you can and make that connection with the sales personnel, supervisors and managers. They appreciate our enthuisasm and it seems like they took their smart oath seriously. I really think they love this car too!
smart center of Edison, NJ (aka Ray Catena Motors) called to confirm my reserved smart is at the Baltimore port. Check out my post in Club 1173 for more. Thanks, Regina
I have received about 30 Reservation holder's contact information, build number, VIN, and status. 1 of those 30 includes Regina above. Coming closer...
I want to ask a question about the $99 reservation. I have gotten so many different answers from reading all the different posts on SCoA. Even in articles.
My question is how long will it actually take for me to buy a Smart car or get the one I reserved?
My reservation number ends in 1470. I know i'm 1470 days from the date of March '04. I also know there are over 40,000 reservations made from the Smartusa.com website. Now, Regina has gotten her car at the port already and she was one of the first ones to register with 1173 as her number, if i recall correctly. Rumors have it that if you reserve now, it will take at least 9 months to get our smart car. Another range is the end of '08 to early '09. I know you are not the manufacturer but honestly, does it take over 9 months to a year to manufacture 40,000 vehicles?
Smart isn't a new startup company. It's been in business for quite a bit of time already. I just want to know when there will be cars available for us late-comers and hopefully, it's not in 9 months but somewhere in the range of 3.

You made your reservation 297 days after they started taking reservations. So plan on getting your car over 297 days from next week when the first cars get delivered.
Smart is only producing so many cars this year for the USA, they are still building lots of smarts for the rest of the world. smart is not halting production of Euro cars to make a whole bunch of USA ones first.
They are still producing cars for everywhere else at the same time, so it will take them a full year to make the USA's allocation of cars. How many this is, we really don't know. Could be 20-25,000 or more this year.
So you should get your car as stated in your reservation, 2nd half of 2008. We in the front of the line are getting ours when promised nine months ago.
