My impression is that the folks who are well off and buying the Smart as a toy are more able to put the uncertainties out of their mind easier than those who are buying it for economical transportation.

For those folks the cost of the warantee, the actual delivery date (since they are are not adding the Smart to their "stable") and other practical considerations are much more pressing.

So why don't we just agree to live and let live? No one makes anybody read the speculations so why not just ignore them if they somehow bother you?

Bingo! I haven't had a car that made it to the end of it's warranty for years. My WRX had some portions of its warranty voided about two hours after I brought it home. By the end of the 4 year coverage, every system that *would* have been covered, wouldn't. I get those guaranteed buy back things that if your car meets these 12 points we'll give you $xxxx for it. I think I meet 2-3...

So I'll probably void various smart systme warranties pretty quickly. By the time I get mine, there will be plenty of parts to throw on it.

I really have to stop my forum addiction. The anxiety is palpable. I just want to be positive and look forward to my smart car. Will I be disappointed in "something", probably, that's just how life is. Maybe I'm just so old that I have lost my angst. ....back to happily anticipating my smart ---whenever it comes..

I think some of the anxiety-ridden posts about everything from the warranty to the orangy-red color of the Street tour car is humorous. I agree that it is just another car that will probably be really fun when it gets here. We in America need to remember what patience is. Nobody twisted any arms to get us to line up and log on to this board every day. Have fun with it in whatever form you end up with.

10-4 to that one, Smart ABQ, RLove and others. I may extend the warranty depending on its cost but I have already planned on upgrading (trading) to the PHEV or EV...hopefully it will be available in 2-3 years.

One thing is for sure, I WILL have fun with it. And if something major breaks and I don't have warranty coverage anymore, it wouldn't be the first time I've done a major repair on something in my garage! I've built prototype vehicles in my past so fixing one already designed (but perhaps poorly) will NOT be a unsurmountable task.
