Reservation #1482 (late January of 2008, at Long Island, New York); configured on 1 February. This interval seems remarkably brief, in view of the extensive commentary on these forums, and it may indicate that smart are about to greatly increase production to meet demand. Perhaps the new announcement should be: "Hello, U.S.A. Here we come!"

I find it hard to believe you can reserve AND confirm all within 30 days with so many people (20,000 +) waiting. Did you make your $99 reservation in January 2008 are are you pulling our leg?

It makes sense. The cancellation rate at the dealers after delivery is higher than expected. Also, if you were Smart wouldn't you want to get as many cars sold in 2008 as possible so you could claim "Most Popular New Car" "Record sales for a new car" and whatever other awards and recognition you could get etc. etc.....they make lots and lots of these cars in Europe and it would not be difficult to make some minor production adjustments and start sending the cars where crazy people like us are willing to spend $17,500 for a two seat convertible that's not much heavier than a motorcycle. Here come the Smarts!!!!!
