that makes even more sense. He probably just got a confirmation e-mail after he made his $99 reservation. Mine came a few days later too, and thought he got his configuration e-mail....oh well....
Reservation #1482 (late January of 2008, at Long Island, New York); configured on 1 February. This interval seems remarkably brief, in view of the extensive commentary on these forums, and it may indicate that smart are about to greatly increase production to meet demand. Perhaps the new announcement should be: "Hello, U.S.A. Here we come!"
This either a premeditated yank, or he configured on the smartUSA website which means diddley. They now allow you to "configure" your car on their website for a practice run so to speak.
Along the line of this thread - At what point does the "configuration" become a "fractory Order"? I'm guessing it is directly related to the cutoff date for configuration. Anyone have some info? Just passing time enjoying SCOA topics

You must be kidding. I reserved back in July 07 and haven't heard a peep from smart.
I am puzzled at the response to my comments. I do understand the difference between reservation and configuration. I reserved the car on 22 January (Long Island, New York). I was told by my dealer that I would likely receive the invitation to configure in about seven weeks. Because I wished to be sure of obtaining a 2008 smart, I then put down a deposit at the dealer so as to be placed on the list for orphan cars. I had been reading these forums, so was well informed of the smart saga. Thus, I thought that even the seven week prediction was likely optimistic. You may imagine my surprise when I received an e-mail message on 1 February, from David Schembri, inviting me to configure my car with the options I desired, at mysmartfortwo.com. I configured immediately and received a confirmation message.
I realise that this story seems unbelievable. The turn of events was unbelievable to me, too. It may indicate that there were few orders in the New York region, or that smart are about to increase production, or both.
I own vintage micro-cars, including the 1956 BMW Isetta in my avatar, and have wanted a smart since they were introduced ten years ago. My smart will be a yellow/black Passion, with a red interior, fog lamps, clock and tachometer, heated seats, and alarm. I hope that it will arrive in the U.S. in May or June.
It is too bad that the presumption of honesty appears to have gone the way of the horse-drawn carriage.

Reason: Add missing term.
We are happy for you. I'm sure you can understand the uniqueness of your post. Many have been waiting as much as seven months and still have not received the email. And because we have experienced prank posts your post raised eyebrows. Congratulations
I made my reservation on Mach 19, 2007 and picked up my cabrio 10 months later to the day, January 19, 2008. First one delivered in Orange County (Laguna Niguel). Can't get the smile off my face and can't park the car without drawing a small crowd!

This is just based on two data points though. One point being my own. I was an 1173 and configured 6 months later. Now I am waiting for my smart which should be here in less than 20 days.
Recently someone who was a 1239 received a configuration e-mail. The wait time for that was about 8 months.
Assuming someone recently made their reservation, that could mean a delivery around anywhere from October to December. This is assuming that smart does not too flooded with reservations once the car is seen out and about on the road.
I will update my spreadsheet as I get more data from this board and post the data. If people want to update on this thread it will make it easier for me to find the info.
Thank you for the kind words, centerextreme! I am sorry about the last sentence in my previous message, but it seemed that I was being accused of being either an idiot or a liar. ;) However, I well understand the frustration of waiting months for a car as delightful as the smart, and I hope that my unusual experience turns out to be an indication that things are about to change for the better, so that smart-lovers will soon receive their cars.
I think things would be dramatically improved if smart would just send out the invites in the order they were received by IB and deal with the logistics when the time comes. Anything else leaves the door open for honest questions.
These guys ought to get a dictionary and look up "Reservation".
