My configuration invitation arrived shortly after I placed a deposit at my dealership. This led me to speculate that the deposit had some effect on the process, but I do not know of any system whereby this would be possible.
In the end, my experience might amount to nothing more than a fluke. [/SIZE]
I'll say! I wouldn't think the second deposit should have anything to do with it, and technically the rezo system is supposed designed not to allow two deposits (rezos) from the same person. In the end, congrats on your good fortune....did you ever think about playing the lottery?
SmartCard, I have but one reservation, through SmartUSA: the refundable $99, paid on 22 January. That is for the car I configured on 1 February. The deposit to which I referred is a cash deposit at my dealership: this deposit will go to whichever car I ultimately purchase, an orphan or my reserved car. Since I am now essentially assured (because of configuration) that my reserved car will be a 2008 model, I am no longer in the market for an orphan.
I recently had the idea that my unusual colour combination choice (yellow panels, black Tridion, and red interior) might have been the reason for the very brief reservation-to-configuration interval: that it was possible that some-one had reserved a car with that combination and then requested a refund of the $99, which might in turn lead to a match between the car and my reservation specifications. But this would imply that the hypothetical cancelled car was already in some stage of production at that point, which could not, in theory, occur until after configuration. Perhaps the car was not in production, but its place in the production queue had already been established. This is merely speculation, for I lack adequate information.
I have just read on another thread here that the two other “reservees” in my area did in fact already configure their cars in December. This returns my particular location as a possible factor in the brief interval to configuration.
The smart situation should become much clearer in March when the new computer “tool” is activated.
Hello; I'm #1275 reserved on 6-29-07 and have'nt got an email yet, wish i knew more about load balancing ? and dealer allotments ? I guess i really thought they would go by the numbers, what was i drinking????
I am writing, not speaking. I do regret the length to which I have had to thrash out this sub-topic, but a glance at the last few pages will disclose that, because the reservation-to-configuration interval I reported was unbelievably brief, my comments were sometimes misunderstood. I have endeavoured to clarify the situation as needed. ;)

What you are reporting is not typical in the smart reservation confirmation process. The only monies deposited at dealers right now is for orphan cars, those confirmed vehicles that have failed to be delivered for one reason or another. Cars you order through the reservation process at $99 will be confirmed by you (that is you chose exactly what you want your car to be) by email invitation from smart USA. Built in the factory and delivered to you about three months after confirmation.
The money you paid at the dealership is NOT part of that process, and is indeed placing you on a SECOND LIST for a car the dealer may have available if someone cancels. Good Luck!
