San Francisco...when does it open?

Hey all,

I imagine that there are quite a bit of reservations in the bay area. Does anyone know when the san francisco location is going to open?

You and I make at least two around San Francisco.

I haven't heard when the SF center opens. But, since the showroom and signage is complete, I'm guessing they'll be ready once the first cars arrive.

Official dealership announcements first, then reservation list goes to dealer, then they contact us and start lining up the cars!

Scott

We really don't know how many people have reserved in total, much less in one particular area. Haven't you read any other posts on this forum? You also only have to ask your question once.

In So. Cal. where smart has five shops opening up (Beverly Hills, No. Hollywood, Laguna Hills, San Diego, West Covina) the BH Mercedes dealer told me they are expecting 600 cars next year and has 500 reservations. He said the same number also for No. H'wood and Laguna. I would expect similar numbers in West Covina (Penske Mercedes) and slightly smaller in San Diego (if at all). There is also a dealer up north in Santa Barbara with about 300 cars expected.

A market like the Bay Area could see in the 2000+ range of deliveries next year. I don't know how many dealers they would be spread out to. Anyone up there know about more than just Mercedes SFO?

Penske has reported California has 20% of the reservations, that's 6000+ cars for the state. I've accounted for almost all of them above. Your guess may vary.

There is supposed to be a Smart Center opening on Stevens Creek Blvd in San Jose. The signage is there, but no construction yet as of a week ago. I'm expecting to hear this week or next regarding the initial dealers from SmartUSA.

cars in SF

do you know how many cars a typical dealership would get in 3 month period if they had say...2500 reservations?

Do you know if the show cars in the dealership would be available for a test drive? Are the smart dealerships going to have a set s.o.p?

I dropped by the Stevens Creek lot yesterday and talked to a sales guy - the Land Rover dealer next door to the Smart lot is the dealer for San Jose. According to them, they are trying to work out some details with the building permits before they can change the parking lot to a building - unfortunately I did not think to ask what those details were. In any case, they are expecting their first shipment sometime in January (he wouldn't get any more specific) and until the new store gets built the cars will be processed through the Jaguar dealer down the street - on Stevens Creek near Saratoga Av.

He also said that they have put up a display over in Santana Row, near the theaters, but I didn't have time to get over there to check it out.

According to Beverly Hills Mercedes they have 500 reservations and are expecting 600 cars next year. They will have at least a couple of demo cars. First batch is due to arrive in January. I don't know how fast they'll get the cars.

There are about 6000 reservations for the entire state of California per Penske (20% of 30,000). So I expect around 400-600 cars average for the larger dealers (Santa Barbara will probably get less).

2500 reservations at one dealer? Not if California has 6000 total reservations and seven dealers.

Here's another California question... do you think the cars will land at the WWL facility in Port Hueneme or come by truck from Maryland?

I suspect, living in Northern Nevada, that I will have to pick up in San Francisco or it will be delivered through there.
