I learned about the Smartcar through a newspaper site from CA. I called Acura in Seattle, and a dealership in Portland--the two listed for the Pacific NW, where we live--and was given the same prices for each model. Both dealerships told me that the car is ordered on line and is sent to the dealership nearest the buyer. I even called a dealership in Chester County, PA, near my brother's home--and was given the exact same prices for the 3 models--and was also told I am to order on line--and I would pick up the car at the dealership closest to where I live. That was the standard line for the 3 dealerships I called yesterday. The only difference was that in Seattle and Portland, I was told the wait time is 12 - 18 months and in PA, I was told 8 - 12 months. Tax is paid according to the state where the buyer lives. (Tax is much less in PA, but I was told that wouldn't help me as a WA resident.) The other option is through eBay--where there were 37 cars (I think that number is correct) for sale yesterday--but none in our area. The prices on eBay were also higher than those offered at each of the 3 dealerhips I called--but there would be the potential savings in gas costs by having the car now rather than waiting until next year or so...
