smart car makes MSN headline today

"Stingiest Sippers: The 10 Most Fuel-Efficient Vehicles in the U.S."

Stingiest Sippers: The 10 Most Fuel-Efficient Vehicles in the U.S. - MSN Autos

Interesting and kinda funny "Given that the Fortwo is the slowest-accelerating passenger vehicle in the country (say a Hail Mary before merging onto a freeway), a lead foot, with a resulting impact in fuel economy, is practically a safety requirement."

Cool article, thanx for posting. It's funny that many of the top 10 are hybrids. The Prius and the Civic hybrid base at around $22,000 but we all know what base means! No A/C, no dealer installed options, and in no way available to purchase. However, I have a friend with a Prius and she LOVES it. To each his own.

Pretty good article, with the usual comments about size and acceleration (what's the freeway limit in New York? Don't have any issues with that at our 65 mph limit.) But, the author falls into the trap of comparing hybrid mpg with the smart, without figuring in the price differential. Overall, though, it was a favorable look at the smart which is a change from most of the early pieces.

PS - whoops! Wrong article. This is the one I was thinking of:

Smart’s tiny proportions defy expectations - MotorHead - MSNBC.com

Nice article, put the smart at number three and could have been higher if they mileage was just a little better.

I don't understand why they lower the MPG's so much! I feel like I'm getting at least 43MPG with Ruby... and I have a friend with a Honda fit. We took a road trip and we were getting about 35 MPG's. Does anyone know how they get these fuel econamies?

the Epa uses standardized testing the same for all the cars they test. How you drive make a huge difference. The EPA numbers are great for choosing among differt vehicles not so good as a predictor of what you will get with your driving style. hope that answers your question

Maybe my standards are lower...but I don't have a issue with acceleration on my Smart...and its not that I moved from a really slow car...I own a 66 Mustang 290 hp 4 speed and a Javelin V-8...so I can go fast when I want (and pay for it!!)...But I am happy with my Smart....
