Smart diesel CDi coming to britain, check the bullet points!

So, look at this mileage, 84 mpg!!! I like the way they refer to the performance as "useful" meaning, with 42 bhp, good luck getting on the freeway.

Remember that our Gallons are different to yours.

The CDI will have better torque than the petrol version and a remap will be able to bring the BHP up to a more sensible level. There is a possibilty it could out perform the 61bhp petrol fortwo and possibly the 71 as well.

Remember the Beetle

I don't know if you're old enough, but remember millions of people drove VW Beetles in the 60's that had 36 HP and still had a ball with them. I had one of them AND and 427/425 HP Corvette side by side. Talk about a contrast! ;) Getting onto the highway isn't so much about HP as it is about anticipation and planning ahead. Here in Georgia, the merging traffic has the right of way, too, which helps.

Yup. Yup. I drove a 1956 Volkswagen with a 36 HP engine in the late '60's. I also remember filling that 10 gallon gas tank for $3.00! I guess my age is showing! I sure don't remember having any trouble getting up to speed. However, I don't think I had any roads with speed limits much above 60 MPH back then.
I'd love to have one of those Smart diesels.
Subman, are you in SE GA?

Hi, no I'm in NE Georgia near the SC border. It used to be nice to fill it up with the change in your pocket and drive around half the night.... Those days are gone. The 36 hp was good enough to cruise with and accelerate up to speed. It had a really low first gear, which helped. I can't see how with a 6 speed, the diesel with it's extra torque wouldn't do an adequate job.
