Smart Diesel to return

I found this while looking through the Smart Canada site.

The Diesel is comng back ... At leas t for Canada:

They also list the MHD! I wonder if there is any chance of picking up the motor out of wrecked vehicle and transplanting it into the US car.

On this same note one would expect that smart dealers should be able to work on the motor, but who knows.

Yep, that link goes to the UK site. The Canada site lists only the limited one special edition in addition to the usual models. No MHD nor diesel for Canada yet.

And I don't know if the MHD motor is any different. The MHD isn't a hybrid in the sense of a Prius, it simply turns off the engine at stops and restarts it when you let off of the brake. Bigger alternator, bigger starter, and a controller to handle all of that stuff, and a neat little backlit display in the car. It should all fit in your luggage for your flight back from London.

Please don't torture me like this. I want a Smart Diesel badly. Several months ago, after seeing my first truckload of Smarts, I called the Vancouver, B.C. Mercedes dealer and asked about the diesel. I was told until there is a version that meets emission standard in all US states that Canada won't see any more diesels either. It makes me want to call California's supposedly Uber-Green Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger and ask him to let up on the EU14 diesel requirements.
