Smart Readying New forfour for US

I just learned that Smart is preparing to deliver a new four door version of the fortwo in the US!

It doesn't look much like the old forfour from Europe, though. It looks like a stretched fortwo with back doors!

The ForTwo+2 is still some way off from reaching showrooms, though. It’s not likely to go on sale until 2012 at the earliest – although when it does arrive, there will be a wide range of engines, all featuring start-stop, plus a fully electric model.

Let's dust off all those remarks about how dangerous and small the rear seats in the iQ are - they should fit just as well here.

I would much prefer development within the US fortwo first: ED, MHD, diesel.

Americans don't like diesels because they're noisy and smelly, and too problematic.

And now that there are seats back there, where's the engine?

The fortwo is mid-engine so I would presume the engine would be moved back and the seats would be on top of it.
