Smart Sales Top 97,000 in 2007

Daimler has announced its 2007 sales results. The new (451) fortwo model sold more than 97,000 units in its first year:

New smart fortwo is very popular with customers

Following its decision to focus on a single model series, the smart brand sold 100,600 vehicles in 2007 (2006: 112,100). The new smart fortwo has been very successfully established in the market, with sales of the two-seater climbing by 43 percent over the course of the year, and a total of 97,200 units sold (2006: 67,700). Germany was the most important market for the fortwo in 2007 (31,000 units sold), closely followed by Italy (30,600 vehicles delivered).

Amazing that their most important markets Germany and Italy will likely have their sales figures eclipsed by the US first year sales.

'dickey you haven't been contacted yet?! We still have no sign on the completed building in ABQ but I think they delayed the signage because of what other dealers are experiencing once they put the sign up. Everyone from the forum decends upon them!

I'm getting excited too even though I won't get one for quite some time. I reserved in November.

Interesting...I've seen higher numbers (120,000?) mentioned for the fortwo's, but perhaps that difference could be production numbers versus actually sold and delivered. And of course you know where those "extra" smarties are heading!

I've been talking to my dealer since December. But no, not the official "come on down" yet.

The signs are up at other dealerships. Some have open houses this weekend. Emails go out tomorrow to the first group to get their cars.

Next week i'll be driving smart???

Is the first group thought to be all 1173 people or just a portion of them? I know we will all know soon. Just wondering out loud if they will fill all of the 1173 people in Jan.
