Smart USA bets on ForTwo's big allure - Detroit Free Press

Schembri, still the car salesman...

Dave Schembri, president of Smart USA, stopped for a moment as he passed through the nearly finished flagship Smart dealership in Bloomfield Township this week.

He couldn't help but point out one more feature of the Smart ForTwo, a European-made minicar about half the size of a family sedan.

"It's a solid car," said Schembri, eyeing a bright-red Smart cabriolet.

Then, he kicked the side door and banged on it with his hand, causing the body panel to bend but pop back into shape.

"It's also dent resistant and scratch resistant," Schembri said. "I could hit that car ... I could do anything you want."
And the usual Global Insights naysayer quotes, typical.

Do you have proof that this is "paid for, anti-Smart crap?" Would you rather just see paid for, pro-smart crap?

Its an article in a newspaper. It quotes the head of SMART USA talking about the car in rather complimentary terms. It has information that may be valuable to other members.

Just because they print the drivel from a Detroit spokeshole doesn't make it "paid for, anti-Smart crap." Note that almost every newspaper story will have that "its too small, too cheap, too dangerous, too unwanted" quote in it. Gotta take both sides to get in the newspaper.

The press is printing the same story over and over. Not much will change until they start interviewing buyers after they pick up their cars next month. Then first crash, first baby born in a smart, etc. After that, no news.

Interesting quotes on the above story from smart headquarters.

Some people just can't take bad news. Personally I love to hear both sides....but even tho I have conf., still stalling and can't make up my mind. In a stomach-churning condition over what is totally practical and something that could be really fun.
