Last April the county purchased three 2009 Smart Fortwo Passion Coupes for their high resale value, low maintenance costs and projected 41-miles-per-gallon fuel efficiency.
Instead, the cars have been getting closer to 30 to 35 mpg, though the dealer claims the mileage significantly improves after 5,000 miles. As of early February, the county Smart cars have logged about 3,300 miles each.
Ok this is pure proof, no pun intended that these guys are doofuses and did not do their home work. One the 41 MPG is based on highway driving not city driving, and even so the car is rated at 33 in the city, so more likely they are doing all in town driving. Only because i am on the average of 35.2 miles to the gallon and all my driving is in town, of course i get better when it is not so cold outside. Once again biased opinions and simply not reading all the data that comes with the car. What i am saying is they are getting their moneys worth, and as far as the transmission, well i am not so itchy on that one guess because i read up on this forum long enough to know what to expect, and for the record it is a 5 speed automated transmission not a full automatic, and these guys do have the option like we do to drive it fully manual. I thought the majority of california liked Smarts, but guess not.
