At least one other SmartCar owner and ourselves contacted the "Street Smart Tour" and volunteered to go up with our cars to support this effort and maybe talk to potential buyers,

We both thought it could be something like Phoenix's first SmartCar ralley . . . They turned us down!

The fact that the SmartUSA folks weren't welcoming the "older brothers" to the show is not surprising.

Talked to another dealer of the current Mercedes engine smarts yesterday. He paid to be in a Eco type show in Denver last week and ended up very close to SmartUSA's booth. SmartUSA apparently got him kicked out of the show, though I think the promoter refunded his money. I really don't understand their posture on this. There are only a limited number of the Mercedes engine cars left (maybe 100?) and they certainly aren't manufacturing anymore of them in France. They are producing only the new models now. Surely they can't view a car that costs a hefty premium over theirs as a threat? At least not a high-numbers threat. It only serves to confuse the public even more when they pretend the currently available originals don't exist and then the public finds them. I know I'm biased on this, but it would seem that ANY smart car on the road helps the brand. It's a living part of the very real history of the smart car.

YAY! They are actually coming to Tampa, which is not too far from my city at all! And what really excites me about that is that it most likely means that, once smarts become available at a limited number of dealerships in 2008, one of those dealerships will be somewhere in the area of Tampa, so yay, yay, YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was afraid there wouldn't be any dealerships near moi for the first model year, anyway. My next stop is to look at the thread on dealerships, if I can even stand the excitement! I'm so glad this forum exists, it is great to have a home base for all things smart!

...Hold on, let me write down October 27 through 28 on my calendar!!! DONE!

The Penske groups division smart USA, will bring the cars to Walnut Creek California on Aug. 19 and Whole Food in Cupertino California on Aug. 24-25. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. The stores are located 1333 Newell Ave. in Walnut Creek and 20830 Stevens Creek Blvd. in Cupertino.
