Is there any truth to this???

smart car Automobile Blog; March, 2008 Archive

Though the safety of this car is still under negotiation, and the production of this car is already halted because of dwindling sales, smart cars still prove that its one of the best car for the young generation. Cheap, safer than the other cars, and best of all, small. A road trip for 'two persons and a case of beer'.

I don't believe any of what this guy wrote was researched. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has rated the car 4, 3 and 5 stars in its impact ratings and the IIHS Crash Tests rate it Good in front and side tests. The Factory in Hambach, France has added more shifts and made other adjustments in an attempt to keep up with demand. People are reserving smartcars daily and hitting the dealerships for Orphans. The Blog article is 2 months (nearly) old and perhaps it was good speculation then but not now!

Garage
Yep, 100% out to lunch. Not sure what he was using as source info but it didn't include Google for sure.

The problem with blogging is that it gives any fool the ability to present his opinion, no matter how misinformed, as cold, hard fact. I believe that the author, while providing us with another example of this, was trying to be positive about the vehicle. He just didn't have any of his "facts" straight.

sounds like he was using sources from 5 years ago when I think smarts future was uncertain. From what I understand is that smart has yet to turn a profit. I think that is going to change now.

"The Safety is still under negotiation"
This is just as bad as the "chinglish" that you see in some electronics and computers literature.
This guy is full of it, he's a horrible writer, lacks grammer skills and knows nothing of the subject he talks about.
Take a look at this R Class review
news The Mercedes-Benz R-Class
"nor it is a vehicle for the practical people"
huh? He contradicts himself many times.
Just remember, you can't believe everything you read.

"... about which he talks". or better still, "... about which he speaks."

;-)

The guy is a moron. That crash done by Top Gear would not be survivable even in a Nascar tank. (Although Robert Kubica walked away from a 140 mph crash in F1 last year, but it wasn't into a raw concrete barrier.)

Maybe his statement about the car being discontinued comes from the fact that the car in both videos is a 450, and his bias ignores the fact the model was replaces by something larger and more modern in its safety technology...
