Top 10 Cheapest New Cars You Can Buy (smart's #4)

You can sound polite and say "inexpensive" but if you're strapped for cash, the most important question when shopping for a new car is: what's the cheapest car on the market? AutoGuide has got the answer, along with the nine runners up.

Arguably the most fun to drive car on the list, the Mazda 2 manages to do so with the least amount of horsepower. A 1.5-liter 4-cylinder makes an even 100-hp although with a 4-speed automatic fuel economy isn't as good as it should be at 28/34-mpg. (28/35-mpg with the standard transmission).

Priced at $14,180 it looks good outside and in and is the brand's first model to come with a brake-override system. What it doesn't have is a great deal of cargo room with 13.3 cu-ft in the rear hatch area, with a total of 27.6 cu-ft with the rear seats folded flat.

Click the link to see the rest of the list.

That Kia Rio 5-door is actually looking like a good option for a second car for our family. Yes, occaisionally I do need a back seat.

Oops, I missed it somehow. Sorry. Back it goes to "smart News"...

Actually I didn't miss it, it was added later:

Lol.. it was an oversight. (Being small, they’re easy to overlook). The updated list now has the Smart fortwo Pure…. and no more Mazda2… pity.
(Thanks BWG.)

They very easily could have requested a better picture from smart USA. My goodness, give us a call and we would have happily sent them some.

Also check out a used Fit if you are on a budget -- it has hit the number one spot for compact cars for 3-4 years running and will probably take you further (last longer).

The picture's fine to me...it's a pure, and there's a picture of a pure...

He already just mocked the car down in the description (with the whole "pay for play" argument).

If you really want to be mad at the poster, be mad that he didn't post a base passion, which should land itself on that list as well.

I think only the Pure would have made the list. They were looking for 'cheap' cars. Most on the list IMO are a bit too cheap -- not sure being on that list buys you much (better if your car ISN'T on it!). The Versa (number one) has been panned in the news repeatedly lately for quality and reliability (I would have expected a bit more out of Nissan).

From the sounds of the poster (in the comments) he based it mainly on price. With the addition of the smart he had to delete the Mazda 2. But a passion is cheaper and somewhat equally equipped to a Yaris so...idk...
